Jeremys Department Store

My first time passing by this place I ran into this woman who had just bought some cute designer sneakers for $8! I asked her what was the big deal about this place and she explained that they buy designer items from different sources, and offer great, discounted sales. “Sign up for their email list,” she said. “That’s how I know about the great deals.” So ever since then, every Friday I get an email from Jeremys with pictures of new items and a promotion of a current sale, like 40% off all sale merchandise etc!

Located at 2nd South Park Avenue in San Francisco is this little piece of heaven called Jeremys. I have never been so excited about a store as I am about this place. It is a Bargain shopper’s dream come true! Definitely recommend going to Jeremy’s for discounted shoes, and their sales floor (a whole floor!) which is good for discounted Urban Outfitters and Free People clothing. From the amazing purses to the jaw dropping shoes YOU MUST VISIT !

Now I have to warn you all, on a great day you may find tons of great things, and on a not so lucky day you may go and find nothing at all. But please do not let a couple failed attempts discourage you from what this store has to offer. They have lots of loyal customers who get their weekly emails and snatch up a lot of the great deals, but that just means you need to get yourself in the race! My first couple times going I found a beautiful vintage coat with fur on the hood that I got for $40! It was marked down from a retail $500 UNBELIEVABLE! Some words of wisdom when going on a sale day, snatch up first and decide later, there are lots of people who see you eyeing something and want to grab it from underneath your nose!

Going with my regular shopping gals we had our sights on some Louboutins, which didn’t work out size/quality wise but $34 Manolos, $70 brand new Elizabeth & James and $35 Tory Burch Sandals. After you get through the Designer Section, you can go upstairs for some basic pieces and casual wear. I’m not going to lie it gets tedious, but it is so worth it in the end! Lots of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and similar type brands. Plus, some of the stuff comes out to under $10!

It has been a few months of shopping around and sharing my secrets. Although I wish I had more time in a day to share with my readers the nifty new places I have discovered, I will not be posting as often as I would hope. I have gotten a bit attached to writing and sharing all my favorite places to shop, so I don’t want to say goodbye just yet. This whole blog started off as a project for my English class in college, but I have truly enjoyed this experience. I will continue to venture out and find new places and do promise to share them with everyone. Hope you enjoy!!

Second Hand Galore

We all love to get a good deal. We all love knowing that we got something for less than full price. The best places to get a great deal are Second Hand stores in the Bay Area. Nothing brings me better joy as a shopper getting that additional discount here and there. When I go to all my regular second hand places such as the Salvation Army, Goodwill and Crossroads I can honestly say that it has been a joy each and every time I get to the receipt and see how much I spent.

Some people don’t even pay attention to the price tags, but those people wear them once or twice and donate them to Second Hand stores to be a hidden treasure to someone else. Second hand stores are one of my more time consuming places to shop, but amongst all the mayhem are some really neat vintage pieces that will be sure to draw some attention to you.

I have found jackets, boots, and lots of clothes for work that are one of a kind pieces that not a single person has. I love wearing a unique piece of clothing for two reasons; one being that I know I got a great deal on it and two, people can’t possibly go buy one like it. I know that when someone asks you where you got your outfit chances are they might go out and try and get one similar, but by shopping at discounted or second hand stores you minimize that chance.

My favorite second hand stores are the usually Goodwill and Salvation Army, in Burlingame and San Francisco. The best finds I have found were in Burlingame to be honest, so if you are interested in second hand shopping I would recommend taking the journey down there. Also Crossroads in San Francisco there are many stores and locations to choose from.

Crossroads is a great place to buy, but I would not give them 5 out of 5 stars on their buy back prices. Their prices are not what you would expect in comparison to what you bought them for. To some people its better than nothing, but to me there are some items I know are worth more on EBay. So all in all I would highly recommend if you are in the area and have some time to shop around. Second hand stores, or thrift stores are great places engulfed with hidden treasures.

As a child my grandmother would make me take walks with her up and down Valencia Street in San Francisco and would stop inside all the second hand stores. As a child I didn’t understand, I thought those stores were made for poor people and those who didn’t have much money to buy new things. But this is so far from the truth I wish I had taken more advantage at a young age; I probably would have found some great things having an open mind! Now that I am older I put aside all the stereotypes and misconceptions so now second hand stores are some of my favorite places to go!

Lovely Loehmann’s

For those of you women out there who love high fashion clothing –the type you see in runway fashion – Loehmann’s is where it’s at. Their prices range from 30%-65% off department stores on a daily basis. No waiting for the sticker Clearance time of year, or some promotional discounts, they offer those everyday low prices year round!

So many of my girlfriends have experienced the right of passage -that is my introducing Loehmann’s to them. Unbelievable brand clothing at drastically discounted prices is what gets most of us. They carry such a wide range of styles and brands we always find ourselves walking out with super unique and stylish pieces. Not only does Loehmann’s have the best couture labels – Gaultier, Costume National, Valentino, Moschino, Missoni, etc. – it has the best designer jeans as well, such as Seven for all Mankind, Paige Premium, J Brand and Acne.

If you like looking like a million bucks and enjoy wearing unique clothes, not something everyone has already seen at Bloomingdales, Macy’s or Nordstrom’s (and you know exactly how much it costs), then Loehmann’s is the just the spot for you. You will find lots of people asking you “Where did you get that?!” and complimenting you along the way. If you wish to divulge your secret and you tell them how much and where you got it, I guarantee they will be enticed to go see for themselves!

From all my bargain shopping experience the best way to describe Loehmann’s is that it’s a step up from TJ Maxx in terms of what designers they carry, but not necessarily in pricing. Each Loehmann’s location is different so it’s important to do your own research and find out the best one for you. You also have to make sure to dedicate at least an hour to find your hidden treasure, because like any good treasure it is never easy to find.

Because of my love for a good deal, you can find me squealing over $60 Paige Jeans, $50 Theory suits, $40 Ella Moss dresses, Tom Ford sunglasses and their enormous shoe selection has me coming back for more. Leaving the store knowing I got a great deal for what I am buying is one of my most elated feelings.

Lucky for us bargain shoppers out there, this store is commonly known and widely accessible. There are 40 stores in 11 states and that’s not including their online store. Tailor made fashion for women’s sportswear, shoes, handbags and more! And for the fellas out there, don’t worry you will find yourselves picking up a few designer dress shirts, wincing at the price tags you will be greatly surprised too!

Change and variety is what us consumers want. You want to walk into a store every other week and find new deals and new fashions without hassle. Discovering new items at Loehman’s is not difficult and from my own experience, you are more likely to get a one-of-a-kind item versus showing up to the ball with someone in your same dress!

My favorite part about this store is the “Back Room.” For those of you who don’t know what it is, it is the area where you can find special collections from leading designers such as

Unlike department stores or fashion retailers, Loehmann’s selection is always changing so there’s something new to discover every day. Our legendary Back Room, renowned for its special collection from the world’s leading designers, has been the favorite fashion destination for generations of stylish women. It’s the place where every day is an opportunity to find a unique fashion gem by one of the world’s most coveted designers at a reduced price.

Now as we know in order for stores to keep track of us, and how much we buy Loehmann’s offers a membership. From my own personal experience, becoming a Loehmann’s member has its perks, like the exclusive entry to the “Back Room” I mentioned earlier and other great deals and discounts where you’ll save up to 65% on top designs from the world’s most celebrated designers

One thing about this store that I see as something special is how long they have been around. Since 1921, Loehmann’s has been filling the closets of smart, fashion conscious shoppers who insist on the latest designer fashion, shoes, and accessories… at a great deal. Start shopping now, or become a member for exclusive access to the Back Room. Expect the unexpected at Loehmann’s!

For the Shoe Lovers

A common misconception about bargain shopping is that bargain shopping is for poor people. Wrong! bargain shopping is for smart people! That being said, the smartest shoe-loving people go to DSW – the Designer Shoe Warehouse, to buy shoes.

Whether you are male or female, the selection at DSW is out of this world. Walking in the store you will see an immense collection of shoes for any style, age or preference. They are sure to put on display the seasons hottest trends as well as a very neat and put together store. There is no hassle of asking the employees to get you a size 8, if they have it in your size you can get it yourself!

Ever since 2009 when I first walked in to a DSW in Daly City, CA I have been religiously going back ever since. The deals you find on shoes, purses, wallets, leggings, hats, and gloves are out of this world. My first move when walking through the doors is to go straight for the Clearance section. Plenty of times I have found shoes on clearance that are still on the floor marked at a higher price! I suggest this also because of the wide range of items you can find all within your size.

The shoes on clearance also have added deals! Depending on the color of the sticker on the shoes you can get between 30%-70% off the additional marked down price. They provide a breakdown for those of us who can’t do the math in our heads due to all the great shoes you see around you.

DSW’s mission statement reads: “Our core focus is to create a distinctive shopping experience that satisfies both the rational and emotional shopping needs of our DSW customers by offering them a vast, exciting assortment of in-season styles combined with the convenience and value they desire.”

This statement is a great representation of what they truly do offer, but what they also offer is a great return policy. I have had many instances in which I bought a pair of shoes and whether worn or not was able to return them hassle free! The customer service and great employees are also what keeps me coming back to this store.

Of the many, many, many shoes I  have purchased I can say that some of the best deals I have received are thanks to the certificates they send you in the mail. These coupons come in the mail when you are a DSW rewards member. This great membership is another big plus of this store because you get a deal, on top of a deal, on top of even more of a deal!

These rewards are always kept on file so even if you misplace them they will redeem them for you without a problem. You can also accumulate them, so you can use one, two or however many offers your have on one single purchase.

My favorite part about this store is when they tell you how much you have saved when you are at the paying at the register. The fact that you are able to see how much you would be paying and how much you are saving is a good thing to know!

After all the bargain shopping I have done I can honestly say that I have never saved $400 on shoes. This is my actual receipt so you can imagine my excitement when seeing this! So for those of you who have never been, Google your nearest DSW and see just how much you can save!

Lots of Love for Big Lots!

Maybe it’s the distinctive shopping experience. Or the exclusive and fluctuating mix of brand-name merchandise. Or perhaps it’s just the adventure of the treasure hunt.

But one thing is for sure- once you experience what it’s like to shop at Big Lots, you’ll never look at traditional retail items the same way ever again!

This place offers everything! From everyday consumables and housewares to toys and seasonal decorations, Big Lots carries amazing brand name products that many other stores simply cannot compete with.

Big Lots is one of the United States’ largest closeout retailers with the buying power to find and negotiate some of the best deals around. With that, they are able to offer us consumers unbeatable bargains, with something new and different to find every time you walk through the door.

When I first heard of this “Big Lots” place I thought to myself what the heck is a closeout retailer?

Closeouts offer the same first-quality, brand name products found at other retail stores, just at lower prices. Typically they buy closeout merchandise from manufacturers who want to reduce inventory due to package changes, canceled orders, product discontinuation etc. In the end, we are the ones who reap the benefit of being able to buy things we need and use for a great bargain.

Lucky for us, there is a Big Lots in our lovely city of San Francisco, which is one that I have been going to for awhile now. Some Big Lots stores do offer furniture, the one we have here in San Francisco is very limited when it comes to furniture, but once in a while you may get lucky!

The experience I have going to Big Lots is one that I have enjoyed over the years. I have found things from lamp/bookshelves to picture frames, from bathroom curtains to comforter sets. All these great items were less than full price making me feel even better when I approach the cash register. I have bought brand name snacks, cleaning supplies, juices and batteries so its safe to say the variety is definitely worth the browse!

All kinds of people shop at Big Lots. They range from budget shoppers to deal hunters. Budget shoppers are people who look for the lowest price, no matter what brand. Discount shoppers who hunt for bargains and select brand names. And deal hunters who are the most passionate group, shop for the fun and excitement of finding a great bargain.

I would consider myself to be a hybrid of discount shopper and deal hunter. Because of the excitement I get from searching and finding the brand name hidden treasures it makes me the ideal deal hunter. Knowing that I got a brand name item for less than full price brings me an even greater joy and that’s why I love to share my secrets.

Big Lots is certainly a place to check up on every so often because of the things you can find. They do carry things on a regular basis such as toiletries, snacks, cereals and housewares but the inventory is limited and unique every time. That being said, I think all of you reading my blog should look up your nearest Big Lots and start your treasure hunt as soon as you can!

Amelia’s Antics

Strapped for cash? Tired of the tedious, inefficient task of cleaning out your closet? Take a drive to Millbrae and visit Amelia’s Antics and sell your slightly used goods on consignment!

Amelia’s Antic’s, located in Millbrae, CA., is a fashion consignment shop designed to help recycle those fashion items you no longer wear and sell them for some money back.

My first time walking into the shop my eyes were fixated on a Juicy Couture handbag I saw on the window display. Not knowing what this place was I walked in and to my surprise I felt like I had just found a Bay Area Hidden Treasure!

Any fashion good that is within two years or less of the current fashion period are what you will find at Amelia’s Antics. Anyone looking for a good deal on a brand name item, this is the place to go.

Frequent brands that you will find in this boutique are: Banana Republic, INC., Chico, Ann Taylor, Morning Glory, Juicy Couture, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Coach handbags.

The shop is designed to provide people with costly fashion items for less than they would regularly pay. You will find anything from shoes to scarves – anything you can wear, it’s there.

As well as shopping at Amelia’s, I decided to experiment selling my clothes and purses. 4 out of 5 of the items I brought were sold within the first 2 weeks! I made about $100 on items I was ready to give away and also had the option of store credit. So that Juicy Couture bag I saw on the window was mine for $50 and I still had money to spare!

Although it is not what you paid for full price, you are able to make 40% on the resale price of your items. But lets be honest, something is better than nothing! The store employees are extremely nice and help you understand what they are looking for so that you know what type of items to bring.

5 items are accepted every Tuesday thru Thursday, between the hours of 4:00-7:00p.m. The first and third Friday of each month you can drop off goodies all day and they will contact you through email.

Either way you look at it you have nothing to lose in coming to this shop. You can get rid of some things collecting dust and/or find a great deal on something you would normally not be able to afford. When you sell you items on consignment, it gives you -the original owner – some money back and the piece of mind that the item has gone into grateful hands.

Unfortunately for the guys reading my blog, Amelia’s Antics is geared towards women only. But they do offer some great finds and gifts for the special women in your life!

This place will captivate and delight, so long as you are open to slightly used items, you will surely find something that will catch your eye and have you coming back for more.

Bargaining Power

Benjamin Franklin once said, “If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting.” Franklin is reminding us that when it comes to money it is not always about making it, it is about saving it too. There are many ways to save money but the challenge is finding the ways and places where you can do that. Saving money is hard for some, may not be a priority for others, but across the board is something that gives people joy and satisfaction.

As a Bay Area native I have been raised with the notion that “money doesn’t grow on trees.” That being said, my family has taught me to watch my spending habits since I was very young. This means sometimes shopping at second hand stores or walking down Mission street comparing prices of produce. This idea of getting a good deal is something that has been passed along from my grandparents who were immigrants from Mexico and who came to the U.S. in the early 50’s. Coming here with very little money, retiring by 50, wisely investing, spending and saving their money, my grandparents are truly living the American Dream.

My mom also has inspired me the most to be careful with my spending habits. Whether it’s groceries or shoes, I naturally try and get the best bang for my buck. There are effortless ways people can learn how and where to save money, but the question always is: Where can I go for the best deals?

With the many resources available such as the Internet, my blog will help those looking for a good deal find places near them. There are places where you can find jewelry, furniture, shoes and appliances for pennies on the dollar. All over the Bay Area there are hidden treasures and hidden places where you can find these great deals. I will highlight the places that people may have heard of but have never been to.

I always love to find new places and boutiques that no one really knows about. Places like Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls are some of the more widely known places to go, but there are a handful of other places to find what you need. Some of my favorite places are all around the Bay Area in cities like San Carlos, San Mateo and San Francisco.

I will share the location and tips for shopping at these discount stores. I intend on visiting each of these stores and providing pictures to show some of the goodies I find. I want to provide some insight for those who aren’t familiar with discount shopping places and share with them all the great deals they have to offer. I will give you a special look inside some of the Bay Area’s Hidden Treasures.
